WPL 2023: RCB players pose with painted faces as Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, and Heather Knight celebrate Holi.
On March 7, Smriti Mandhana and her team celebrated Holi despite facing two consecutive losses in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) tournament. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been struggling, having been dominated by both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in their previous matches. After their back-to-back losses, RCB is currently in fourth place on the points table.
In their second match against MI, RCB captain Mandhana won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the team struggled to face MI's bowlers and were all out for 155 runs in 18.4 overs. Despite contributions from lower-order batters, MI's Hayley Matthews took her team home with an unbeaten 77 runs off just 38 balls. RCB failed to perform in all departments, and Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match.
In a post-match interview, Mandhana remained positive and said that her team would not dwell on their loss and instead look for positives to carry forward to their next game. RCB's next match is against Gujarat Giants (GG), who are also yet to win a game in the tournament.
