As it happens to be Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) to lose the match again; 2nd in three days, Gulf Giants (GUL) enters the fray in style.
Abu Dhabi, 15 Jan 2023: Abu Dhabi Knight Riders 114-9, Gulf Giants 115-4 - Gulf Giants win by six wickets
It was their 1st outing in this ILT20 and they registered an impressive start by securing a six-wicket win against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Abu Dhabi was playing their second game of the new competition after losing in the tournament opener against Dubai Capitals but have now been hammered twice in three days, this time by James Vince's charges. The disciplined bowling from the GUL made ADKR flutter during a powerplay on a slow pitch, with Colin Ingram dragging on off the bowling of Sanchit Sharma for seven. With two more wickets falling in his next over Sharma inched his team’s win closer. When Paul Stirling, the in-form batter for Knight Riders, fell for a run-a-ball 20 – caught at cover off Liam Dawson – Abu Dhabi was in real strife. Ollie Pope, while secured a life when he missed a stumping chance off Andre Russell, but he fell for 26 off 12 balls, furious with himself for trying to manufacture a shot through point off Chris Jordan.
Rehan Ahmed, England's youngest Test debutant, the leg-spinner finished with 1 for 25 in his four overs, impressed with his variations, and stymied the ADKR score at 114/9.
Vince, who dominated in 2nd half had little bother with that score. Opening the innings somewhat surprisingly with his Southern Brave teammate, Rehan, who was pushed up the order. Vince brought up an effortless half-century off 33 balls thanks to back-to-back sixes off Akeal Hosein before his innings was ended by opposing captain Sunil Narine, who proved a handful on a turning pitch. But the game was over as a contest by then.
